About Gingersnap

Gingersnap, also known as Ginger or Gingey, is a 9-year-old, 9lb Pekingese mix who is the funniest, spunkiest, and most adorable little thing. We don't know her backstory, but she was found as a stray in Houston. She has clearly had puppies in her past and likely didn't have an easy life before entering the Houston city shelter. A kind shelter employee sent us videos and photos, and we immediately hit the road to rescue her!

Ginger is a friendly, confident, low to medium energy girl. She is very playful with most dogs she meets, especially other young pups her size. She's currently living in a foster home with three other dogs and has a particular fondness for one of the resident boys, constantly trying to get him to play. It's truly heartwarming to watch! She is house-trained, crate-trained, great in the car, and good on leash. Ginger enjoys sleeping in her crate at night and will often retreat there for a peaceful nap during the day. She had a few initial accidents when she first arrived in foster care but has been reliably potty-trained since. She also shows no signs of separation anxiety when left alone.

When it comes to exercise, Ginger loves her neighborhood strolls and her bursts of zoomies and play with the other small dogs in her foster home. Her exercise needs are quite low-maintenance. She's generally good with being handled, but can let out a little shriek if startled. She's become less easily startled as she's settled into her foster home routine and gotten to know her humans.

Ideal Home

Ginger's ideal home would include another very playful small dog, as she enjoys both vigorous play and relaxed downtime. Her adopter should be committed to continuing basic command training for her safety. She's a confident girl who could fit into various home environments, but due to her tendency to be startled, a home without young children would be best.

Ongoing Health

Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and will be cleared to go to her forever home in September.

Training & Support

Ginger is house-trained, crate-trained, and good on leash. She can be startled if caught off guard, but this has lessened as she's become more comfortable. Continued basic command training is recommended for her safety.
