Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a 4-year-old, 65-pound black Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love and a spirit ready for a fresh start. My journey began a bit rough, found as a tiny puppy by the side of the road. While my siblings found homes, I found a special bond with my person. This early experience has left me with some anxiety and fear as an adult, but I'm working hard every day to overcome it. I'm a smart and playful pup who knows commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake," and I truly want to please!
Ideal Home
I'm looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who is patient, steady, and confident. Someone who understands fear-based behaviors and can set clear boundaries while still being gentle. I'm not a match for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I need someone who will help me feel safe, not overwhelmed. I'm very gentle with babies and have been around a five-month-old, but I haven't been around other children, so older, dog-savvy children (14 and up) would be best for me. I'm not good with cats.

I am neutered, which has helped me! I'm currently on Reconcile to help manage my anxiety.
Training & Support
My anxiety can show itself in different ways. I can be protective of my person and may bark or growl at strangers. I also struggle with the crate; it scares me, and getting me inside can be tough. When left alone, I do best with access to just one room. Since a new baby arrived, my stress has increased, and I've sometimes gotten into things like the trash or random objects. I'm not trying to be bad; I'm overwhelmed and unsure how to cope. My current family has tried hard, but they know I need more time, structure, and confidence than they can provide right now. I have had a single bite incident when my owner was pulling me away from the screen door while I was barking at the mailman, and I turned and bit her hand. I would do best going to a home that will provide me with training to teach me that I can relax around strangers and do not need to defend the household.
