About Gingersnap

Gingersnap, affectionately known as Ginger or Gingey, is a 9-year-old, 9lb Pekingese mix with a personality as vibrant as her name! She's the funniest, spunkiest, and most adorable little dog you'll ever meet. We don't know her exact backstory, but she was found as a stray in Houston. It's evident she's had puppies in the past, and life in Houston might not have been easy for her before she entered the city shelter. A dedicated shelter employee saw her potential and sent us photos and videos, prompting us to rescue her immediately.

Ginger is a friendly, confident girl with a low to medium energy level. She gets along wonderfully with most dogs, especially other young pups her size. She's currently in a foster home with three other dogs and has a particular fondness for one of the resident boys, whom she constantly tries to engage in play. It's truly heartwarming to watch!

She's a pro at potty training and crate training, and is excellent in the car and on leash. Her crate is her sanctuary; she willingly goes in for a nap during the day and sleeps soundly in it at night. Since her initial adjustment period, she's had very few accidents and has shown no signs of separation anxiety. Her exercise needs are minimal, consisting of enjoyable walks and occasional bursts of zoomies with her canine companions.

Ginger loves being handled, but can be startled if approached too suddenly, letting out a little shriek. She's becoming less easily startled as she settles into her routine and bonds with her humans.

Ideal Home

Ginger would thrive in a home with another very playful small dog, as she enjoys both vigorous play and quiet relaxation. Her adopter should be committed to continuing basic command training for her safety. While she's adaptable to various home environments, a home without young children would be ideal due to her tendency to be startled.

Ongoing Health

Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. She will be cleared to travel to her forever home in September.

Training & Support

Ginger is potty trained and crate trained. She's also great on leash and in the car. She can be startled if surprised, so continued positive reinforcement and a consistent routine will help her feel even more secure.
