About Sentry
Sentry is a 6.5-month-old (estimated DOB January 2026), male Retriever/Pit Bull mix who currently weighs 40 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. He is being fostered in Houston, Texas. A photo of his mom, Wanda, is included in the profile for reference. She weighs approximately 55 pounds.
This little family was rescued from the woods in a rural, well-known dumping area outside of Houston. Wanda gave birth to her litter during a Texas freeze, and a kind networker discovered her with her 2-day-old puppies. Sentry and his siblings were brought to the safety of a foster home, where they've had the chance to grow up loved and cared for.
Sentry wakes up every day happy. Happy to crawl into your lap for cuddles. Happy to wrestle and play with his siblings. Happy to go for walks, chase the water hose, and make every ordinary moment feel fun. He loves people. He loves other dogs. He loves life. He's the kind of dog who brings joy wherever he goes. Goofy, affectionate, playful, and endlessly loving. The kind of companion who will greet you like you're the best part of his day, every single day.
Now an older puppy, Sentry has the best of both worlds. He still has plenty of playful energy but is beginning to settle into a wonderful companion. He is potty trained and continues to grow into a confident, affectionate, and well-rounded dog. Sentry is one of the most confident males in the litter, right alongside his sister, Dagger. He's outgoing, friendly, and always ready to make a new friend. Whether it's meeting new people, playing with other dogs, or soaking up attention, Sentry is usually first in line for pets and happy to be included in whatever you're doing.
He has been raised alongside his littermates and his mom and loves playing with other dogs. He has not been tested with cats but has been around children and has done well. He recently attended a community event where he happily soaked up attention from adults and kids alike. He's continuing to practice his leash skills and basic obedience and is eager to learn.
Ideal Home
Sentry is looking for a family committed to reinforcing good manners, building his confidence, and helping him continue to mature into an exceptional adult dog. We prefer homes that already have another friendly, well-mannered dog to help mentor and guide Sentry. If you don't currently have a dog, we'd love to hear your plan for continued socialization. We also prefer homes where someone isn't routinely away for more than four to six hours at a time.
Ongoing Health
No specific health conditions are mentioned.
Training & Support
Sentry is continuing to practice his leash skills and basic obedience and is eager to learn. Ongoing positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued leash practice will help him thrive. Continued socialization is important for building lifelong confidence.
Application Details:
- Applications start by contacting us through Wags.
- If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview.
