Hiya! My name is Candy and I'm a sweet Black Mouth Cur mix, about 6 years young and weighing in at a petite 35 lbs. I'm around 12.5 inches tall and 17.5 inches long from head to tail.
My story is one of resilience! I was found near a carwash in Mexico City, a bit lost and injured. Thankfully, a kind rescuer stepped in and got me the medical attention I needed. It turns out I had a hip fracture and possibly a head injury from an accident, but after some special care and rehabilitation, I'm fully recovered and ready for my forever home!
I'm a medium-energy gal who can be a little shy at first, but once I warm up, I'm super affectionate and love all the pets! I've learned to get along with other dogs at the shelter, but I can be a bit reserved initially. I also need to be mindful of my food; I can be a little protective of my bowl, so having my own quiet space to eat is important.
Ideal Home
I would thrive in a home with no other pets, as I can be a bit guarded in social settings. While I'm generally good with kids, I would do best in a home without cats. I'm still learning not to chase after small critters, so my adopter will need to be prepared to help me with that.
Ongoing Health
I'm spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I'll be tested for heartworm before I travel. I do have a decreased sense of smell, but it doesn't slow me down one bit! All my previous injuries have healed wonderfully. Please note that dental work is common for rescue dogs, and any associated costs would be the adopter's responsibility.
Training & Support
I'm working on my leash manners and would benefit from consistent training with a well-fitted harness. I'm also a work in progress with housetraining, so I'll need frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement in my new home.
