Reagan is a one-year-old, 105-pound Anatolian Shepherd who came to us from a hoarding situation involving over 40 dogs. While the dogs were fed and kept reasonably clean, the elderly owners were overwhelmed, and the dogs missed out on crucial socialization and everyday home life. Reagan has emerged from this challenging start with a surprisingly positive attitude and is the most confident dog from the group. This doesn't mean he has all the answers yet; he's still learning about household routines, strange noises, and all the peculiar contraptions humans consider normal. However, compared to his companions, Reagan is well ahead of the curve. He enjoys people, seeks attention, and is much more engaged than we anticipated given his background.
Reagan is not a shut-down dog, nor is he a "project" in the concerning sense. He is simply a young, under-socialized giant breed dog who needs a patient, structured, and sensible adopter. He is actively working on becoming a well-adjusted house dog and possesses the temperament to achieve this. He is sweet, friendly, and clearly motivated to figure things out.
Ideal Home
A confident and friendly resident dog would be beneficial for Reagan, though he is not as reliant on this as some of the other dogs from his former situation. He gets along well with other dogs and is fine with cats. Given that he is still learning and will grow into a very large dog, we recommend a home with children over the age of 10. Reagan will easily surpass 100 pounds when fully grown, so his adopter must be prepared for a large livestock guardian breed with significant presence, her own opinions, and a healthy dose of self-assurance. A securely fenced yard is a must.
