Meet George!
George is a magnificent three-year-old Great Pyrenees/Saint Bernard mix with a heart as vast as his impressive 112-pound frame. He's a gentle giant, displaying a quiet strength and deep loyalty that makes him a truly special companion. George's journey has been one of overcoming hardship; after a difficult start, he has spent the last 15 months with a foster family who has lovingly helped him regain his trust and learn what it means to be safe and cherished. He doesn't demand attention but offers a comforting presence, content to be by your side as you go about your day. His affection, though quietly expressed, is profound and enduring once given.
Ideal Home
George thrives in a calm, structured environment where trust can be built gradually. He needs ample space and a secure place to roam, making him best suited for a home with a yard rather than an apartment or small condo. His sensitive nature means he needs a guardian who understands patience and the importance of giving him space to feel comfortable. While he has formed a balanced friendship with a female dog named Piper, he may be most compatible in a home without other male dogs.
Ongoing Health
George had one fear-based bite incident when a visitor was too quick to approach and pat his head, an area sensitive due to past trauma. He also snapped (without contact) when a new person leaned into his face in an unfamiliar setting, indicating a need for personal space and time to acclimate. A professional trainer evaluated George and confirmed he is not aggressive but a sensitive, thoughtful dog who reacts in ways consistent with his background. He also shows some food-related guarding tendencies, which can be managed with thoughtful mealtime routines. His trainers have kindly offered continued support to his future family.
Training & Support
George is house-trained, walks well on a leash, and knows several commands including sit, down, shake, easy, and stay. He responds best to gentle guidance and consistent routines. Building trust with George is a process, and his adopters should be prepared to invest time and patience to nurture that bond.
