Gretel is a loving and happy pup once she trusts. She's an extremely smart girl who learns quickly with repetition and knows "sit," "down," and "wait." She's also learning recall with a hand-to-nose touch and responds well to frequent, short training sessions with high-value treats. Gretel is slowly learning to play with toys and other dogs, responding with excitement to repeated events. Her drive to please and overcome her fears is huge, but she needs to do things at a pace that allows her to learn positively and build trust.
Gretel is extremely timid and shy, with many fears that require time and patience to overcome. She's slowly learning to become part of a family and all that entails. Her trust has grown each day, but meeting new people is still a difficult process for her. She has no problems with other dogs and often follows the lead of the pack. Gretel is fully house-trained and will retreat to her quiet spot if nervous or afraid.
Ideal Home
Gretel requires a home on the quieter side. Other well-behaved pups are okay and would help her thrive. She needs someone willing to let her advance at her own speed, with gentle encouragement when she's ready, otherwise, she will shut down.
Ongoing Health
Before leaving Cortez Rescue, Gretel will be given a full medical assessment to ensure she remains in optimum health.
Training & Support
Gretel is learning to allow touch and loves ear scratches and belly rubs. She now accepts a leash and harness and will walk in quiet areas. However, she is often startled by noises, people, and wind and looks to retreat home. She walks well with other pups, but quiet is necessary. She will not yet walk by roadways with traffic and noise and will bolt if afraid.
