Max (VA)

Max is a sweet 8-year-old, 20 lb. male rat terrier mix with a calm temperament. He can be a little shy initially, but once comfortable, he's eager to snuggle up and share kisses. Max wants to be wherever his people are and thrives on attention. He gets along well with other dogs and the two cats in his foster home.

Ideal Home

Max would do best in a home with adults and older children.

Ongoing Health

Max underwent surgery to remove cancer from his left hip. A biopsy confirmed no cancer in the remaining tissue, with a 90% probability he is cancer-free. He does experience some weakness in his hindquarters, which makes stairs a bit challenging, but he manages well outdoors. The vet suspects spinal nerve damage that cannot be repaired. Max also struggles with incontinence, experiencing urine sprinkles and fecal drops while walking, with no control over these episodes. This condition is believed to be permanent and will require management with pads and diapering.

Training & Support

Max is potty trained and walks well on a leash. He is crate trained but can also be left loose in the house. Once his outdoor business is done, he's ready to relax as a couch potato.
