Forever home found!
Dixie is a sweet 5-year-old Boston Terrier mix who weighs about 28 lbs, and could stand to lose a couple of pounds. She needs a new home because her previous owner could no longer care for her. Dixie loves to be around her humans and gets very excited when they enter the room, sometimes mouthing their hands in play. Her foster parents are working with her on jumping and are seeing great progress. Dixie is a good listener and gets along well with her foster siblings, a brother and sister. While she's not very into rough play, she's learning and her foster parents are seeing her growth and confidence increase daily. Dixie is a fast learner and eager to please, though she can be a little skittish around loud noises and sudden movements. She needs a patient family who understands she may not have been heavily socialized in the past, and who can continue to help her learn how to play without aggression. Dixie is housetrained and has never had an accident in the house. She also loves to roll in the grass! She rides well in the car, though she pants the whole time. Dixie is leash-trained and can be a barker. She would do well in an apartment if taken out regularly for potty breaks.
Ideal Home
Dixie would thrive in a home where she can continue to gain confidence and learn to play. She gets along well with other dogs.
Ongoing Health
Dixie had a quarter-sized lump removed from her left hind leg. Due to its location, clean margins were not fully achieved. The vet recommends monitoring the area and a re-evaluation for recurrence. This does not seem to bother Dixie.
Training & Support
Dixie is working on not jumping up on people and mouthing hands during play. She is also learning how to interact with other dogs and build confidence. A patient family who can continue her socialization and training will be key to her success.
