About Allison Catherine (Allie)
Allison Catherine (Allie) is a 4-year-old Havanese with a gentle soul and a heart that's still learning how wonderful life can be. For most of her life, Allie was used for breeding, so when she first came to us she was incredibly shy and unsure of the world around her. Thanks to the love and patience of her foster families, she has made tremendous progress and continues to come out of her shell every day. Although we think she'd be happiest in a fairly calm home, life certainly hasn't been quiet for Allie. One of her foster homes was full of activity, with multiple children (ages 7 and up), family members coming and going, and plenty of excitement—what we jokingly called "immersion therapy." The kids adored her, picked her up, loved on her, and included her in everything. Through it all, Allie remained nothing but gentle. Allie gets along wonderfully with other dogs and would likely enjoy having a confident canine companion. She loves to be near her people and has become more affectionate as her confidence has grown. In the nine months Allie has been in our rescue, living in two different foster homes and now back with me, she has never once shown even the slightest hint of aggression toward anyone. Not when she was frightened. Not when she was cornered. Not when children were handling her. Not with strangers. She has simply never given us any reason to believe aggression is part of her temperament. She gets excited when the people she trusts call her and she trots over for affection. And even loves when you start a little play with her. We can't say with certainty what led to the incident in her adoptive home because we weren't there. What we can say is that it has been completely inconsistent with everything we've experienced with Allie over the past nine months. Like any dog, especially one with an unknown past, she deserves to be approached thoughtfully and respectfully. We are looking for an adopter who understands that trust is built with patience and kindness, and we have every confidence that Allie will continue to blossom in the right home. If you're looking for a gentle, loving companion and believe that some of the most rewarding dogs are the ones who simply need someone to believe in them, Allie may be your perfect match. Allie has already come so far. Now she just needs the family who will love her for the wonderful little dog she truly is.
Ideal Home
A fairly calm home would be best for Allie, but she has also shown resilience in more active environments.
Ongoing Health
No ongoing health conditions are noted.
Training & Support
Allie requires an adopter who understands that trust is built with patience and kindness. She previously had an incident where she bit someone attempting to put a leash on her, but this behavior has been inconsistent with her overall temperament as observed by her current foster.
