Meet Fern, a teenage Shepherd mix with a heart as big as her soft fur! Weighing in at about 55lbs, Fern is a smart and sweet girl looking for a special home. She's learning to be more confident in the world and would do best with a family committed to positive reinforcement training. Fern can be a bit uncomfortable around other dogs, in new environments, and when left alone. Her ideal home would be one where she can slowly adjust to absences and where her needs to avoid doggy interactions can be respected.
With plenty of mental and physical enrichment, Fern will blossom into a fun and devoted companion. She's already mastered sleeping at the foot of the bed, is great in the car, and has a good handle on potty training. Fern loves to play outdoors, especially with balls and even the sprinkler, showing a playful, water-loving side! She settles down well and seems to be doing so even faster as she gets more comfortable. While she's noticed the resident cat by sound and smell, she hasn't shown a strong prey drive, even with lizards in the yard. Fern is also very enthusiastic about visitors!
Ideal Home
Fern would thrive in a home with younger adults who are ready to play with her and are committed to positive reinforcement training. She needs a patient family who can help her build confidence and gradually get comfortable with being left alone. Her new home should also be understanding of her need to avoid interactions with other dogs.
Ongoing Health
Fern has been spayed.
Training & Support
Fern is still working on building confidence and getting used to new situations and being alone. Continued positive reinforcement training and patience will help her succeed. She is a quick learner and enjoys interactive play.
