Odie

Hi there! I'm Odie, a handsome 4-year-old, 65-pound Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love to give. My journey started a little rough, as I was found on the side of the road as a puppy with my siblings. While they all found homes, I stayed with the person who loved me most. This early experience has left me with some anxiety and fear as an adult, but I'm working hard every day to overcome it. I'm neutered and house-trained, and I'm currently on medication to help manage my anxiety, which has been a great help. I'm a bit shy with new people, but once I know I can trust you, I form a deep and loyal bond. I've shown incredible gentleness with the baby in my current family – she's five months old, and I've always been sweet around her! Because I haven't been around other children, I would do best with older, dog-savvy kids. I've only met other dogs when I was boarded, and the staff said I did well, but I haven't lived with other dogs. I'm not a fan of cats. I'm a playful, smart pup who absolutely adores my toys. I get the zoomies, I know commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake," and I genuinely want to please! I just need someone who understands how to guide me with patience and consistency. My anxiety can sometimes manifest as protectiveness, especially towards my mom. I might bark or growl if strangers approach her, and I also find crates quite scary, making it difficult to get me inside one. When I'm left alone, I'm most comfortable with access to just one room. My family even set up a baby monitor so they could talk to me and help me feel safe. Since the baby arrived, I've been a bit more stressed and have sometimes gotten into things like the trash or random objects. I promise I'm not trying to be naughty; I'm just overwhelmed and unsure how to cope. My family has tried their best, but with a new baby and my increasing anxiety, they know I need someone who can give me more time, structure, and confidence than they currently can. They believe I would do best in a household without young children under 14 years of age.

Ideal Home

I'm looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who is patient, steady, and confident. Someone who understands fear-based behaviors and can set clear boundaries while still being gentle. I'm not a good match for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I need someone who will help me feel safe, not overwhelmed.

Ongoing Health

I am neutered and currently on Reconcile medication to help manage my anxiety.

Training & Support

My anxiety can show up in different ways. I can be protective of my person and may bark or growl at strangers. I also struggle with crates. When left alone, I do best with access to just one room. Since the baby arrived, I've been more stressed and have sometimes gotten into things like trash or random objects. I have had a single bite incident when my owner was pulling me away from the screen door as I was barking at the mailman, and I turned and bit her hand. I would do best going to a home that will provide me with training to teach me that I can relax around strangers and do not need to defend the household.
