Meet Julie Mahoney. Julie Mahoney is from Hawaii and breeds Pembroke Welsh Corgi. A little about us; We have lived here on Big Island for 7 years. Before that we were in Southern Oregon and breeding Corgis since 1976. The three Corgis we brought with us are part of our family. At this time; We have only two young breeding females so our puppy production yield each year is limited. Some of our families have been waiting for over two years to get a puppy from us because they know of our great reputation and the quality of our Pembroke Welsh Corgis. We at Pleasantstone have been devoted to breeding Pembroke Welsh Corgis since 1976. That’s a long time of dedicated breeding and knowledgeable understanding about the breed. Corgis with the correct type and temperaments are most important for quality pets and companions. The testing of genetics and using the best bloodlines is essential in our program. We have the very best correct Pembrokes to be found here in Hawaii. In the beginning of our breeding endeavors our stock was built upon show and working Pembrokes. The Corgi crew at Pleasantstone are a testament to the breed. Excelling in the show ring, to livestock herding, obedience, agility, and tracking for lost persons; they do best as family companions who love to walk, run, swim, and play content to be with their owners. Intelligent, they easily get their CGC titles (Canine Good Citizen) and are eager to help around homes with their sharp hearing and watchdog skills. Characteristic to the breed, our Corgis are their own best ambassadors to the breed. In the many years since we began breeding Pembrokes we have seen the 'Corgi love' grow and grow. All we have to do is allow new friends to come and meet our crew to be able to see the 'Corgi spark' ignited! As firm believers in testing our breeding stock for any disease which can affect the breed all of our Corgis are DNA tested for DM (Degenerative Myelopathy), OFA Certified for sound hips, CERF Certified for sound, healthy eyes, Tested for vWD (Von Wildebrands- bleeding disorder) and EIC (Exercise-induced collapse). Our desire is to produce healthy, happy and sound Pembroke Corgis that will reward you with a long life of companionship and devotion. We lost our 17 yr. old male, Bluejay a few years back. Jay lived a long, completely healthy life with NO unusual visits to the veterinary. This is what we strive for in our Corgi pets. Jay, like his handsome offspring, was always ready to love & 'help', a most cherished pet to have around family and children of all ages. As breeders who care about what we are producing we have continued to eliminate DM (Degenerative Myelopathy) from our Corgi bloodlines since we imported our DM clear Canadian stud dog in 2000. We will continue to strive to use only DM free Corgis in our breeding program as we do with any type of disease or affliction which could harm the Pembroke breed. It is most important to us to do the best we can to keep this breed the healthy, happy companion we have come to know and love so well. A word of warning; Please be careful in looking for your new pet because it has come to our attention that there are some unscrupulous breeders in Hawaii. The unsuspecting purchase the pups thinking they are getting a ‘good deal.’ In reality they are getting what they pay for, a much inferior or lower quality Welsh corgi who is not true to the breed's characteristics, type or beauty not to mention overall health. The web site they share is polished but the dogs they are breeding are not really of the best qualities for breeding, the very thing that ruins a good breed. To be honest they are not using the best breeding dogs with known lineages and they are breeding inferior quality. It’s worth the extra money to have a Corgi who will be with you for approximately 15 years. Good breeding practices in any purebred dog is extremely important. In the long run well bred corgis are worth it with less health issues and better longevity not to mention correct Pembroke type, temperament and character. Some people get into backyard breeding in order to make quick money and not because they care about the breed. They really do not have the experience or knowledge of right breeding practices. It is really sad and they breed any Welsh Corgi they can get their hands on, even Pembroke Corgis that should just be pets and not bred. This has been done to many a dog breed to the detriment of the breed. Very sad. Several retired breeders here in Hawaii are recommending our puppies to their old and new clients. We ship pups to the mainland to many of our former Corgi families as well as Maui, Kauai, Molokai and Oahu and have many happy Corgi families here on Big Island. Visitors are always welcomed here to meet us and our Corgis. The current pups born on Christmas Day are completely healthy and beautiful. They start their wormings and inoculations here with us. Between 8-9 weeks is the best time for a puppy to go into his/her new home. They are eager and ready to learn and be welcomed into their new home. Our corgis bring 15 plus/minus years of love and devotion to our happy Corgi families. The puppies are priced at $4,500.00 and they are healthy and happy sold with a limited pet registered AKC, health record and our pet contract. We do not sell to breeders, just to pet families.
