Meet Iris!
Iris is a 3.5-year-old Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix who weighs 47 pounds. She was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas along with her siblings, and she's the last one still waiting for her loving forever home. Iris is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed, ready to start her new life! She's a goofy, playful, and affectionate girl who truly blossoms once she feels safe and trusts you. While she's a bit reserved initially, her foster family has seen her true sweet and tender nature emerge. She's a wonderful companion for someone working from home and would thrive in a quieter environment with open space, perhaps away from busy city streets. Iris's absolute favorite thing is playing fetch with tennis balls! She's trying her best to be the perfect pup and deserves someone who understands and appreciates her journey.
Ideal Home
Iris would do best in an adult-only home where she can decompress and feel secure. An outdoorsy lifestyle with access to trails and open spaces would be ideal for her, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. While she loves to play, a quieter environment would help her thrive.
Ongoing Health
Iris is up-to-date on all vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed. She does exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so separate feeding is recommended if other dogs are present in the home.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained, considering her crate her sanctuary. She can free-roam the office in a multi-dog household or the entire house without accidents or destructive behavior if she's the only dog. She knows "sit," "down," and "wait." While she loves her leash and walks well, she can be reactive to dogs that get too close on the same side of the street, so an owner experienced in creating distance and setting up successful leash experiences is recommended. With patience and slow, intentional introductions, Iris has been able to form genuine friendships with other dogs, enjoying play that works best when food and toys are kept out of the mix. Consistent training and understanding her needs will be key to her continued success.
