Hi. I’m Dusty Rhodes but my friends call me Dusty. I’ve been here long enough to know the rhythm of this place — the morning sounds, the evening quiet, the way people walk by and sometimes keep going. I’ve also been here long enough to know exactly what I’m waiting for.Not just a home. My person.I’m the kind of dog who orbits you. Not in a clingy way — more like gravity. Wherever you are becomes the center of my world. I’ll trail behind you from room to room, settle at your feet like I’ve always belonged there, and if you sit down, I’ll gently fold into you like that was the plan all along. My favorite thing isn’t toys or treats — it’s you. A hand on my side. A quiet moment. Being chosen, over and over again.But I do have my own kind of fun. Give me a toy and I’ll happily make a whole afternoon out of it, tossing it, chasing it, entertaining myself like it’s my job. And when I’m really feeling good, I’ll show you my signature move — the Dusty Roll Deluxe. It’s a full-body, joy-soaked roll in the grass, usually with a toy in my mouth, like I’ve got nowhere else to be and nothing better to do than enjoy being alive. It’s hard not to smile when it happens.I’ve had sleepovers with volunteers, and I take that role seriously. I’m completely housetrained, respectful of the space, and an easy, welcome presence in a home. I settle in quickly, make friends, and show people that I already know how to belong.There was a time when I wasn’t doing so well. I won’t get into it — it’s not really my story anymore. What matters is this: I’m here now, I’m healthy, and I didn’t let any of it make me hard. I stayed soft. I think that’s something.I get along well with people and don’t make things complicated. What I do need, though, is to be your one and only pet. That’s where I’m most comfortable, and where I’ll truly shine.What I’m really looking for is simple. Closeness. Consistency.
