Sugarbear

Sugarbear, a unique and special boy, is looking for a patient, kind, and understanding adopter with experience in handling dogs. He was rescued from a hoarding situation in Kentucky and, having been born blind and living with minimal human contact, he is understandably scared of the world around him. Sugarbear is learning to navigate his surroundings, but he needs a quiet environment to feel safe. He has a lot of love to give and will be incredibly loyal to his chosen person, teaching valuable lessons about resilience and joy. He has a habit of "stealing" soft items like blankets and pillows, and his favorite possession is a red bucket named "Bucky." Despite his challenges, Sugarbear is finding new ways to adjust and be happy, and he offers as much love as any other dog.

Ideal Home

Sugarbear needs a quiet home with no children or other pets. He requires an owner who is very familiar with dog behavior and body language, with the experience to recognize and respond to his anxiety and fear. This owner must be savvy with dogs and willing to commit to some hard work to help him adjust.

Ongoing Health

Sugarbear was born blind.

Training & Support

Sugarbear will need time to adjust to his new home and may always benefit from being kenneled at night. He will not do well with other dogs or cats and will need to be kept away from children and younger teenagers. He is looking for an owner who can provide consistent support and understanding.
