Meet Spike!
This spirited two-year-old German Shepherd mix is a striking beauty with a black coat and a bright white chest patch, framing intelligent eyes that observe the world with curiosity. Weighing about 50 pounds, Spike is a medium-sized boy who embodies both athletic energy and tenderhearted devotion. He's affectionate, highly intelligent, and wonderfully playful, genuinely believing he's a lap dog and will gently snuggle into your lap for belly rubs. His favorite things are squeaky toys, and he gets so excited for playtime! Spike is also an enthusiastic swimmer and would be a fantastic companion for an active person who enjoys running, hiking, or adventuring outdoors.
When Spike first arrived in his current home, he was quite fearful and easily startled, often keeping his distance to feel safe. However, over the past year and a half, he has made incredible progress and blossomed with confidence! He now actively seeks affection, initiates play, and eagerly comes for cuddles. While he might still bark at strangers out of uncertainty, he recovers quickly and looks to his humans for reassurance.
Ideal Home
Spike would thrive with a patient, experienced pet parent who can offer a fenced yard, loving guidance, and steady leadership in a caring environment. He may be selective with other dogs and would benefit from thoughtful introductions. He sometimes whimpers if he sees his people cuddling another dog.
Ongoing Health
Spike is neutered and microchipped.
Training & Support
Spike is crate-trained and house-trained. He knows commands such as sit, wait, crate, out, no, and comes when called. He waits patiently for treats and responds well to structure and positive reinforcement. He relaxes in his crate and naps peacefully when left alone for short periods. Loud sirens make him uneasy. With patience, reassurance, and continued confidence-building, he continues to blossom.
