About Bessie

Meet Bessie, the puppy equivalent of showing up to a family reunion and realizing you may have been switched at birth. Bessie arrived as a Pyrenees mix puppy, which is technically possible in the same way a raccoon could technically qualify as a housecat if you squint hard enough. Whatever she is, though, she is absolutely adorable and fully committed to winning over every human and living creature she encounters.

At 18 weeks old, Bessie is social, sweet, smart, and very convinced that people exist primarily to admire her face. She is quick to learn, eager to please, and already crate trained. She's working on the rest of the puppy manners package, which currently includes enthusiastic participation and selective understanding.

Ideal Home

Bessie is great with people, good with kids, and respectful with cats. She has the kind of happy, goofy energy that makes even bad days improve slightly upon contact. Homes considering adopting a puppy must be prepared for flexible schedules for potty training, crate training until the puppy is at least one year old, and extensive socialization.

Training & Support

Bessie is working on puppy manners, which currently includes enthusiastic participation and selective understanding. Puppy behavior and life stages are equivalent to a human toddler. It takes at least a full year to have a calmer, well-adjusted dog. Patience is required and when your dog's behavior is a positive experience for you and those around you, your patience will be rewarded ten-fold, for years to come. Please do not consider adopting a puppy if you have not thoroughly thought through the pros and cons of having one. So many people end up returning them after 3-5 months because they didn't realize the amount of work involved in raising a puppy. Patience, appropriate toys, socialization, and obedience training are all musts. All are time-consuming and can be expensive. Any dog requires work and effort, but a well-trained, well-socialized dog is more than worth the effort to get them there.
