Meet Ruby! This approximately 50 lb girl, possibly a Shepherd mix with her distinctive brown patches and lovely light brown eyes, is a true gem. She was found as a stray, and while she was initially wary, she blossoms into a super affectionate and loving bestie once she knows you mean her no harm. Ruby enjoys her quiet time napping in cool spots but will happily jump up for morning greetings. She's a social butterfly with other dogs, loving to play chase and even getting the grumpier pups to join in on the fun. While generally quiet, she'll voice her excitement on walks, which she navigates beautifully, enjoying all the sniffs and showing no reaction to other dogs. Ruby is reliably house-trained and quickly learned house rules like using the doggy door and sitting before meals. She's smart and kennels well. She did escape twice after going to foster but only ran a short bit before returning, and we're working on door training to ensure she waits patiently.
Ideal Home
Ruby would thrive with an active person or family who can provide her with plenty of exercise, like morning bike runs or long jogs. She'd do well with another larger, well-balanced dog. A securely fenced yard, preferably with a higher fence in very good condition, is a must, as apartments will not be considered. Families with small children who might leave doors open are also not a good fit, and potential adopters should have the time and patience to train a Husky not to escape.
Ongoing Health
Ruby was underweight when found but had no other health problems. She is now on a raw food diet, which has done wonders for her coat, making it glossy and soft, and has significantly reduced shedding. Ruby has been spayed and microchipped.
Training & Support
Ruby is working on not counter-surfing, as she may have experienced unreliable meal times in the past. We are teaching her to trust that she will be fed. We are also working on door training with her to sit and wait.
