A little about them
Penny is a 2-year-old, 62-pound spayed female Shepherd/Husky mix with a bright spirit, big heart, and lots of love to give. She is affectionate, playful, outgoing, and eager to bond with her people. Penny is currently in foster care in San Antonio, Texas and can travel out of state once an approved adopter is lined up.
Ideal Home
Penny thrives with structure, patience, reassurance, and plenty of mental and physical activity. She enjoys walks, hikes, runs, and sniffing adventures.
- She does best with confident, medium-to-large dogs who can set healthy boundaries.
- A cat-free home is recommended because she has shown prey-driven behavior toward cats outdoors.
- Although she has been around toddlers and older children, her exuberance and herding instincts make a home with older teens or adults the best fit.
- Penny can be protective of food, toys, and her space around other dogs, so respectful management and separation during meals and high-value treats are important.
Ongoing Health
Penny is spayed and vaccinated. She flinches easily and may have experienced past trauma, so she benefits from calm, consistent care and time to build confidence.
Training & Support
Penny is fully house-trained and does well in a designated area when home alone. She is not yet crate-trained and may whine or bark when separated from her people. She settles on leash walks with guidance and is smart, eager to please, and making progress in foster care. When bored, she may chew dog beds, so keeping items and food picked up is recommended.

Common questions
Penny is fully house-trained, but she has not been crate-trained. She does well in a designated area when home alone and may whine or bark when separated from her people.
She lives with several other dogs and enjoys canine company, especially confident medium-to-large dogs. She can play too strongly with smaller or timid dogs and should be separated from other dogs around meals and high-value treats.
Penny has not been tested directly with indoor cats, but she has shown prey-driven behavior toward cats outdoors, so a cat-free home is recommended.
Penny needs a patient, structured home with older teens or adults, opportunities for walks and other active enrichment, and people who will give her time to build confidence and settle into a routine.
