He's all that AND a bag of chips! Meet Chip, a handsome 1.5-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/German Shorthair Pointer/Catahoula Leopard mix, weighing 43 pounds (as of 6/17/26). After suffering a severe injury to his right hind foot, Chip underwent a right hind leg amputation. Chip may have been found as a stray in Tennessee, but that doesn't mean he's got a chip on his shoulder. He can't wait to meet you and be the chip to your dip!

Hanging out with Chip is like eating a cheesy plate of nachos with all the fixings: Amazing. Fun. And oh, so good! This smart, enthusiastic boy loves to please his people and already knows several commands like: "yes, sit, down, and come." Soon, he'll be saying "queso, please!" Loyal to the core, Chip enjoys being part of the family and wants to be included in all the fun. Whether its dancing in the car during a family reunion road trip, playing with his favorite toys, or simply lounging and soaking up your affection, Chip is happiest when he's close to the people he loves.

Chip is house-trained, crate trained, leash-trained and has excellent manners around other animals. He peacefully ignores cats and even his foster family's parrot which is saying a lot! Chip certainly does not want a cracker. He takes his job as family watchdog seriously and will let you know when someone is at the door or when a doorbell rings on TV! Looks like you'll have an adorable home security system!

Friendly with children and full of love to give, Chip is looking for a family that will appreciate his intelligence, loyalty, and affectionate nature. His missing leg doesn't define him at all; it simply highlights his determination and zest for life, like a lemon-y tortilla chip.

Medical Disclosure: In addition to his rind hind leg amputation, he's currently on antibiotics for heart worm for thirty days. But that won't slow this boy down!

If this sounds like the beginning of a beautiful friend-chip to you, bring this boy home now!

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.

Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
