A little about them
Polard is a cheerful, spunky Pomeranian with a sweet smile and lots of love to give. He enjoys hikes with dog friends, learning tricks, morning obedience work, and being part of his people’s lives. After struggling during a stressful previous placement, he has returned to his friendly, social self in a stable training environment.
Ideal Home
Polard needs a dedicated lifelong home with Pomeranian experience and another dog, ideally a Pomeranian. He has done well with children ages 1 and 4 and is friendly with dogs of many sizes and temperaments. He can be shy, vocal, and sensitive to touch when meeting new people, but does well when given time and no pressure. He should be crated and left undisturbed when enjoying very high-value treats because he has some resource guarding.
Ongoing Health
Polard previously experienced tummy troubles and loose stools during a stressful period, but his stools have been terrific in his current stable setting. As a sensitive dog, he may experience future ups and downs. He is microchipped to Mattie’s Place and will receive a dental cleaning in 2027 at Mattie’s Place’s expense once settled with his adopter. His adoption fee includes vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick prevention, a nose-to-tail health exam, and dental or other surgical care if needed.
Training & Support
Polard’s separation anxiety is currently non-existent, and his previous reactivity has resolved with stability and training. He walks beautifully with a slip lead, walks past distractions well with guidance, sleeps quietly in his crate, and makes good choices when free roaming. Covering his crate is ideal if he becomes whiny when he sees people. He enjoys basic obedience, spins, and trick training, and is expected to begin professional training immediately after adoption to build healthy bonds and boundaries.
