Crouton is a very sweet and loving 13-year-old, 17-pound fella. He is almost totally deaf but can hear and respond to very loud noises. Crouton has a lot of health issues, so he will need a home that is willing to see him through any flare-ups and be okay with the associated costs. He is partially housetrained and may need to wear belly bands, which he tolerates well, but they need to be changed many times a day. A person can choose to not use them if they wish, but he will lift his leg and mark. A supply of belly bands and pads will be provided at the time of adoption. He enjoys going outside, so his ideal home would have a nice and safe fenced yard for him to enjoy.
Ideal Home
A home with a nice and safe fenced yard.
Ongoing Health
Crouton was diagnosed with an intestinal disease, but he is doing great now and the flare-up seems to have passed. He has also had ear infections, and his doctor recommends a maintenance medicine to help prevent future issues, with a couple of drops every few days. He does not care for this very much, but he will allow the drops to be administered. He is also prone to skin infections, so it would be crucial to make sure he is kept dry if belly bands are used. He has cysts on his shoulder and just below his ear; his doctors are confident they are benign. Because of his age and health, and the number of cysts, they are not being removed. Crouton recently had a dental and lost 15 teeth; he is healing nicely. One growth was also removed from his chest; it was an odd skin growth hanging about 4 inches down, and it was removed due to its location and potential to get caught on something.
Training & Support
Crouton does have a bit of separation anxiety and may get into things like trashcans and try to chew shoes or cardboard when left alone.
