Estimated to be 9 years old, Chuppie arrived at Bonita Shelter emaciated, with hip dysplasia and degenerative joints that makes him walk a little weird, and scars all over his face. Volunteers stated he would wince when they would to pet him on his back or when he would try to climb into their laps, which he desperately wanted to do. But luckily, Chuppie was scooped up for foster care and has made an amazing transformation!
Thanks to getting lots of TLC in his foster home and being on the right course of meds, we've learned that Chuppie loves to eat and he's put on several pounds! His coat is shiny again, he proudly shows off his snaggly tooth underbite, and get this.....he runs! This guy can sprint around the backyard like a marathon competitor. He can also rocket launch himself onto the couch and off again to dash out the back door. He certainly does not let health issues hold him back!
Chuppie loves being near his people and enjoys companionship, but he's not overly needy or demanding of constant lap time. In addition to having fun running around the backyard, he enjoys playing with toys and taking naps. As you can see from his photos, Chuppie is a connoisseur of cozy spots! He's tested out every comfortable place in his foster home, from plush dog beds to curling up on the couch, and he especially enjoys being tucked in under soft blankets for a nap.
Chuppie rides nicely in the car, and he recently enjoyed joining his foster family for an outing to a restaurant. He happily greeted every human he met, and while he was initially interested in the other dogs on the patio, he settled down nicely once he realized they were keeping their distance.
Although Chuppie can be a little reactive when he sees other dogs while on leash, he is coexisting with his canine foster brothers very nicely. He is great with kids, as long as they don't mind kisses. He can be a little wary of new adults and back up when approached too quickly, but he's a little guy, and if you're slow and patient and get on his level, he just needs a couple of minutes to realize you're his new best friend.
Chuppie has so much love to give, and his happy-go-lucky, goofy personality is guaranteed to fill his new home with laughter and smiles. Could that home be yours?
