Meet Laurel, a 2-year-old, 20-pound Collie and Chihuahua mix with a heart of gold and a spirit that has overcome incredible odds. Laurel is a survivor, rescued from a hoarding situation and facing serious health challenges including pneumonia and distemper. She fought hard and is now a healthy, happy girl, though she does experience constant head tremors as a result of her distemper history. These tremors are a part of her, a reminder of her resilience, and do not require medication. Laurel is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, and she gets along wonderfully with other dogs, cats, kids, and all humans.
Ideal Home
Laurel is a homebody who is bravely learning to navigate the world. She thrives on familiarity and can become overwhelmed by crowds and strangers, especially men she doesn't know. She's working on her confidence with daily walks and car rides, but may need to be picked up if things get too busy. Her ideal home is calm and loving, with someone who will be patient and consistent as she continues to gain trust. She needs someone who understands her past experiences and is willing to support her journey without rushing her.
Ongoing Health
Laurel is a distemper survivor and experiences constant head tremors as a result. These tremors are a lifelong condition but do not require medication or slow her down.
Training & Support
Laurel is a pee pad expert and is perfectly reliable with her potty pads. Outside potty training is still a work in progress. She expresses her joy with enthusiastic "love jumps" up to chest height! While she used to cry when left alone, she now handles solo time like a champ for up to 5 hours and is comfortable snoozing independently in her favorite cat bed, though she still enjoys a good snuggle. She is working on her nervousness around strangers, particularly men, and can sometimes bark from a car at people she sees.
