Penny

Penny is a gorgeous Rhodesian ridgeback mix weighing approximately 50 lbs and is the sweetest girl! She's about 1 year and 3 months old and has a truly remarkable story. Penny was found in January 2026 in a cemetery with over a dozen other dogs, where she had to fend for herself, finding food, water, and shelter wherever she could. Despite her challenging past, she remains incredibly loving and trusting of people.

Penny absolutely adores other dogs, both big and small, and thrives in their company. She's a very active pup who loves to romp and play, especially with toys for tug-of-war. She's also gentle and playful with pigs, showing her versatile nature. While she can be a little shy initially, she quickly warms up to become your most loyal and loving best friend. Penny enjoys car rides and walks pretty well, though she'll need a little more practice to perfect her leash manners. She also has great recall once she's familiar with her surroundings. Penny is mostly house-trained, requiring only consistency to achieve 100% mastery. She is an escape artist, not out of malice, but because she enjoys exploring. One time, she even climbed a 4-foot fence, explored a bit, and then waited patiently at the front door to be let back in – such a good girl!

Ideal Home

An active home where Penny can join you on adventures would be perfect. She's looking for a best friend to be her shadow and would greatly benefit from having another active dog to play with and help tire each other out.

Ongoing Health

Penny has been spayed, is current on age-appropriate vaccinations, flea/tick and heart worm prevention, and de-wormer. She is heart worm positive and has received the initial 30-day course of antibiotics. She will need to remain on heart worm prevention for 12-16 months and be retested afterward. She will receive a clean bill of health from a licensed veterinarian prior to transport.

Training & Support

Penny is mostly house-trained and will need consistency to master it fully. She walks okay on a leash but will need a bit more work to become perfect. She is an escape artist, so a secure yard is important.

Transportation

Penny is currently in South Texas, along the Texas/Mexico border. We transport animals to the Central US and the East Coast every 2-3 weeks. Available transport stops include: Albany, NY; Wells, VT and Brattleboro, VT; Nashua, NH; Willington, CT, Stamford, CT, and Dayville, CT; Steubenville, OH, Cincinnati, OH, and Grove City, OH; Grove City, PA and Washington, PA (currently on hold); Ridgefield, NJ and Mt Laurel, NJ; Emmitsburg, MD and Elkton, MD; and Falls Church, VA and Glenn Allen, VA.
