Flora is a 3-year-old, spayed female Carolina Dog mix who weighs about 46 pounds. She's a playful and energetic girl who loves to wrestle and be chased, and she'd do best in a home with a canine friend of similar size and energy. Flora enjoys interacting with other dogs, often showing affection by licking their faces. She's adaptable and has enjoyed playing with dogs ranging from a 35-pound Cocker Spaniel to a 60-pound Pyrenees mix. While she can be a total love bug and enjoys snuggling, she's also a smart pup who loves learning new tricks and is very submissive and affectionate. Flora is fully housebroken and has demonstrated that she can be trusted unsupervised outside of a crate. She also does well in the car, but is terrified of storms and will seek comfort in a closet or by burying her head in a lap.
Ideal Home
Flora would thrive in a home that is often around, enjoys walks or jogs, and will play fetch with her. A home with no other pets or a well-balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. She needs an owner who will continue positive reinforcement to help with her anxiety. She is nervous of new children and tends to bark at new people, especially when they move around quickly, so an adult household may be best at this time.
Ongoing Health
No ongoing health concerns are noted.
Training & Support
Flora has shown some leash reactivity, which includes raised hair, whimpering, and barking. Her foster parents have worked with her on this, and while she has made progress with positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli, she will need consistent training to help her with her leash skills and feeling safe around new dogs and stimuli. She also needs reminders to take treats gently. Flora has demonstrated some anxiety in the crate at home, but has no issues when boarded.
