About Chico Diablo
Chico Diablo is a stunning black and tan Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail. He's lean, muscular, and athletic, enjoying playtime with balls and spending time outdoors. Chico can be vocal, barking at noises, alarms, sirens, and people outside his property. He's affectionate with his foster family, often pushing for attention and cuddles. He is crate-trained and sleeps soundly in his crate overnight. Chico is also leash-trained and knows basic commands, responding well to verbal cues.
This sweet and spicy Doberman is looking for a loving family pet home where he can truly thrive. He craves affection and would benefit from a fenced yard for exercise. While not a strict requirement, a home with another medium to large female dog would be comforting to Chico.
Chico came to rescue with some past trauma. He was grieving the loss of his home and was confused at the shelter. Initially, he was noted as 'nippy' and avoided petting, using his teeth to signal discomfort when his collar was grabbed. After being brought into rescue, he was given time and space to decompress in his crate and through slow introductions. He has since shown great trust and responsiveness to verbal commands. It's believed his previous handling may have been improper, as he would snap when his collar was pulled. With a secure, well-fitted tactical collar and gentle handling, Chico has made significant progress. He is trusting of people but requires confident owners who can establish clear boundaries for his safety, such as avoiding board-and-train facilities and using a muzzle during vet visits with unfamiliar people. He is sensitive to yelling and is not a dominant personality. Chico was surrendered with another Doberman after his family passed away. They were separated due to not getting along. Chico was initially fearful, barking and growling, but has learned to trust and adapt to a routine. He can "fence fight" with other male dogs but will back down and not engage without a barrier, though he will continue to growl and bark. Due to this reaction to larger male dogs, dog parks and homes with another male dog are not recommended. He is submissive, gentle, and playful with female dogs.
Chico is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm treated, and on prevention. He is now at a healthy weight with a shiny coat and is motivated by food.
Due to Chico's past experiences and his reaction to his collar being pulled, we do not recommend a home with small children. He is acting in self-protection, not aggression, and we want to ensure no child is harmed or afraid of him. He has not been tested with cats or small animals.
