Heidi

Heidi is a delightful and intelligent approximately 3-year-old dog who entered our care in March 2022. She was surrendered by a previous owner due to being picked on by other dogs, which understandably made her fearful. However, Heidi quickly proved her intelligence by learning commands rapidly and is both potty and crate trained. She enjoys leash walks, initially doing best with a head collar like a Gentle Leader or Halti, and can later transition to a no-pull harness once she trusts you. Heidi is a very active girl who thrives on daily exercise and loves water, showing potential for agility. She is good with most people once she gets to know them and has enjoyed playing with children and a German Shepherd at her boarding facility. While she has a strong prey drive and needs a secure fenced yard, she has been observed to tolerate cats and small animals. A behavioral evaluation in September highlighted her friendly, playful, loyal, and trainable nature, noting her strong scenting ability. Heidi is patiently waiting for her forever home and a person to call her own.

Ideal Home

A home with a secure, fenced yard is essential for Heidi's safety and to accommodate her high energy and strong prey drive. She would likely do best as the only dog initially, until her compatibility with other dogs can be assessed, though she has shown she can form friendships. She enjoys the company of children aged 5 to preteen.

Ongoing Health

Heidi has no known ongoing health issues.

Training & Support

Heidi is intelligent and motivated by positive reward training. She is already potty and crate trained and knows many commands. Her prey drive means careful management around smaller animals is needed. She is an active dog who requires consistent daily exercise to thrive.
