Stanley is an affectionate, loyal, and playful young dog who has overcome a great deal already in his short life. Despite arriving extremely sick and undergoing treatment for Valley Fever, he has maintained a loving temperament and continues to make wonderful progress in his recovery. He currently receives medication twice daily and, while he may tire more easily than other young dogs, he still enjoys playtime, short activities, and spending time with his people.
At home, Stanley is happiest curled up beside you on the couch or sleeping at your feet while you work. He forms strong bonds with his people and thrives in a calm environment where he can relax and feel secure. While somewhat reserved at first, especially around men or in unfamiliar situations, he warms up nicely when given patience and space. Once comfortable, he is affectionate, cuddly, and eager to be near his person.
Stanley has done well living with other dogs and enjoys wrestling and playful interactions, though he can sometimes play too rough or miss social cues with older dogs who prefer more space. He has shown no food aggression and eats calmly alongside other dogs in the home. Because of an incident involving a cat, he should not be placed in a home with cats.
He has been around children and, while initially timid, has been tolerant and gentle with handling. In foster care, Stanley has allowed close handling of his paws, ears, mouth, tail, and body without issue, showing a trusting and tolerant personality once settled.
He is mostly house-trained, crate-trained, and does well sleeping either freely in the home at night or resting quietly in his kennel during the day. Since he is still young — estimated to be around one year old — he may chew inappropriate items if left unattended, so continued structure and supervision will help him succeed. He knows some basic routines and commands, including “sit,” and politely waits for meals while continuing to work on skills like “stay” and “drop it.”
He enjoys squeaky toys, stuffed toys, and playful romping around the house or yard. Stanley also travels well in the car and is generally quiet during rides, often laying down comfortably along the way.
Overall, Stanley is a sweet and resilient dog looking for a patient, loving home that will continue helping him build confidence as he recovers and matures. With time, structure, and affection, he will make a deeply devoted companion.
