Shiner (Momma), age 14, and Pretty Girl, age 12, are a deeply bonded mother and daughter pair looking for a quiet retirement home to spend their golden years. They came to us when their previous owner could no longer care for them due to illness. These sweet senior girls rely on each other for comfort and confidence, and we're hoping to find a loving family who will cherish them together. Momma is a gentle soul who is hard of hearing but still has so much love to give. Pretty Girl is a loyal shadow, always seeking reassurance from her mom. Together, they are a mellow, affectionate duo who thrive in a peaceful environment where their needs are understood and their slower pace is respected. They are incredibly grateful for kindness and are ready to offer quiet companionship and plenty of kisses to their forever family.
Ideal Home
A calm, quiet home with someone present most of the time is ideal for Momma and Pretty Girl. They would do well as the only dogs or with other mellow, friendly small dogs. Children aged 10 and older are welcome. They are not tested with cats, but friendly cats should be fine. A one-level home or a home where owners are willing and able to carry them up and down stairs is essential, as they cannot manage stairs independently.
Ongoing Health
Momma has some arthritis and stiffness, making movement difficult. She requires assistance with bladder and bowel expression, which her foster mom can teach. This is believed to be related to disc disease, and she is currently on NSAID medication. Momma also has vision issues due to pigmenting keratosis and needs daily eye cleaning and medication. She takes a probiotic to support her digestive tract. Pretty Girl is a bit overweight and will benefit from a family that can help her manage her weight for better mobility. Both girls have completed a course of antibiotics for Lyme Disease. They will require ongoing senior wellness care, including regular veterinary check-ups and preventative treatments.
Training & Support
Momma is very good during her care procedures, and her foster mom can provide guidance on how to assist with bladder and bowel expression. Pretty Girl is learning to manage her weight with gentle exercise. Both girls can be timid in new situations and with new people, but they blossom beautifully with patience and kindness. Their new family will need to provide reassurance and help with their daily care needs.
