Lázaro is a handsome 6–7-year-old, approximately 19 lb Schnauzer mix with a gentle soul and a quiet presence. He's a calm and independent companion who enjoys affection but isn't overly clingy. Lázaro coexists peacefully with other dogs, children, men, women, and even chickens and roosters. He sleeps comfortably in an open crate and can stay in it for short periods. While he may bark and try to act like the "boss," he is not aggressive. Lázaro was unfortunately abandoned for being considered "old" and "different," but he's a testament to the beauty found within. He's ready for a loving family who will appreciate his resilience and quiet loyalty.
Ideal Home
A fenced backyard is a must for Lázaro. He would do best in an active family that enjoys outdoor activities and has experience with dog behavior and training, or is willing to hire a trainer. Patience and understanding are crucial, especially as he is not house-trained.
Ongoing Health
Lázaro has a congenital, non-visionary small eye and is missing a few teeth. He is healthy, pain-free, and these conditions do not limit him in any way. His health protocol includes spay/neuter certificate, DHPPI and Rabies vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, deworming, microchipping, a negative 4DX and heartworm test, and monthly Nexgard Spectra preventative. He also comes with a health certificate and vaccine booklet.
Training & Support
Lázaro is not house-trained, and this requires significant patience and understanding from his new family. He can be a bit protective of his food, so basic boundaries during feeding times are recommended. He may sometimes bark and try to act like the boss, but it's all talk and not aggression. An adopter with experience in dog behavior and training, or a willingness to hire a trainer, is highly desired.

- If it's a match, you will have a call or video chat to be introduced to the pet and conduct a virtual home tour.

- If approved, you will sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, which helps cover vet care, spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, food, and more.
Transportation
Lázaro is currently being fostered in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast. Transportation is available through a contracted company that organizes 3-4 trips per year. Pets are transported from Mexico to Texas for U.S. adoptions, or to the U.S.-Canada border for Canadian adoptions. A one-time transport fee of $400 USD applies. Adopters will be added to a private Facebook Messenger group for real-time updates on the journey.
