About Max

Max is our July "Noma Home Pros Underdog" of the month! This sweet 8-month-old German Shepherd has some special needs, but he's sure to capture your heart. Before coming to us, Max experienced seizures at home. Thankfully, he hasn't had any episodes since he's been in our care! Max is also partially blind, seeing only shadows and objects directly in front of him. He's been seen by a veterinary neurologist at U of I, who confirmed his partial blindness and a lifelong learning disability. While he can learn like any other dog, it will require more patience and time. The neurologist recommended further testing like an MRI and spinal tap, but it's not currently necessary. Max's foster family has had him for about four months and says he adjusted to his new routine within one to two weeks. He's fully vaccinated and has tested negative for heartworm. Max gets along wonderfully with the three dogs and two cats in his foster home.

Ideal Home

A patient home that understands his learning differences will be ideal for Max. He thrives on routine, so consistency will be key to his happiness.

Ongoing Health

Max has partial blindness and a lifelong learning disability. He was seen by a veterinary neurologist at U of I, who recommended further testing, though it is not currently needed. Please discuss any potential future testing with your veterinarian.

Training & Support

Max is currently working on potty training, crate training, and general manners. Like any young dog, he would benefit from formal training classes. He learns at a slower pace, so patience and repetition will be his best friends.
