About OLIVER
Oliver is a charming 2-year-old, 66 lb. pup with a heart full of love and a bounce in his step! He's described as a "very fun pup" with a beautiful coat and striking blue and brown eyes. Oliver is a master of polite greetings, waiting patiently for his leash and walk. He enjoys a good play session, though he's still learning the art of retrieving. When playtime is over, he's a champion snuggler who loves to lean in for affection and showering his favorite people with kisses. He's a smart boy who knows many tricks and is eager to show them off for a treat. Oliver generally keeps to himself when meeting other dogs. Despite his current circumstances, Oliver maintains a happy-go-lucky personality and is sure to bring his signature joy to a furever home.
Ideal Home
Oliver needs a home that can provide a quiet and supportive environment for him to recover from distemper virus. This recovery is expected to take approximately three months. Distemper is not contagious to adult, fully vaccinated dogs, and he is safe around cats, so many households may be able to offer him a safe haven.
Ongoing Health
Oliver is currently recovering from distemper virus and requires a dedicated foster or adopter to help him heal. The shelter team will provide medical guidance and support, and PACC Clinic will offer care. Donated supplies will be provided to fosters, and fosters will have the first opportunity to adopt him.
Training & Support
Oliver has a few behavioral considerations that will require consistent management and training. He has a documented history that includes an undocumented bite (no skin broken) and has fatally injured another animal in the past. He is also an escape risk, having been known to jump a 6 ft fence, and can roam when unsupervised, so secure containment and always supervised outdoor time are crucial. Oliver has a strong prey drive and has been known to chase chickens, so a confident and strong handler is recommended. He can also be destructive when bored or anxious, having destroyed crates, toys, gardens, and young trees. Enrichment activities, proper crate training, and keeping valuable items out of reach will be important. Oliver may also exhibit jumpy and mouthy behavior when overstimulated, and positive reinforcement training is recommended. Guidance is available from TOP Dogs at topdogshelp@gmail.com.
