Hart is a 5-month-old Border Collie/Great Pyrenees mix with a sweet face, a good brain, and puppy charm that makes people forget they were not technically looking for a puppy. He is friendly, social, smart, and an all-around excellent young dog. Hart likes people and enjoys other dogs, and is doing a very nice job at puppyhood. He is still a baby, so he will need the usual puppy basics: structure, training, patience, supervision, and a family willing to help him grow into the wonderful adult dog he is clearly on track to become.
Ideal Home
Hart needs a fenced yard where he can run, play, explore, and burn off his puppy energy safely. He will do best with a family that enjoys a bright, engaged dog and understands that smart puppies are always learning.
Ongoing Health
Hart is a young, active puppy.
Training & Support
Hart will need the usual puppy basics: structure, training, patience, supervision, and a family willing to help him grow. Homes considering adopting a puppy must be prepared for:
- Flexible schedules for potty training. Puppies can only hold it for one hour per month of age.
- Crate training until the puppy is at least one year old to prevent chewing on inappropriate things when you can't supervise.
- Socialization. The more positive and varying experiences as a puppy the better, both in and out of your home.
- Puppy behavior and life stages are equivalent to a human toddler. It takes at least a full year to have a calmer, well-adjusted dog. Patience is required. Please do not consider adopting a puppy if you have not thoroughly thought through the pros and cons of having one. So many people end up returning them after 3-5 months because they didn't realize the amount of work involved in raising a puppy. Patience, appropriate toys, socialization, and obedience training are all musts. All are time-consuming and can be expensive. All dogs require supervision with children and obedience training. Adopters that want to have good dogs must be prepared to put the time and effort into training a dog.
