Hello there! Let's introduce you to Jeffrey, a delightful 2-year-old mix of Maltese/Poodle and Maltese/Parti Yorkie, weighing in at about 16-18 pounds. Jeffrey is an incredibly happy and playful pup who is eagerly waiting for his perfect home. He's a sweet dog who aims to please, though he's looking for a little extra guidance to help him shine.
Ideal Home
Jeffrey would do best in a home where he can get plenty of attention and playtime. He's a bit mouthy, giving lots of kisses, so he's not a good fit for families with very young children who might not appreciate this affectionate greeting. He does well with cats and most other dogs, especially smaller, more passive ones. He can get a little nippy with overly boisterous young pups but generally enjoys the company of other dogs if they aren't too overwhelming. He can be a good watchdog and will bark at new people, but he warms up quickly and has never shown aggression. While he can be a bit anxious around new people, especially men, with patience, he blossoms into his loving self. He is also triggered by wheels passing by, like skateboards and strollers, and will lunge at them.
Ongoing Health
Jeffrey is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, and current on heartworm prevention. His groomer notes he can be a bit "crazy" during grooming sessions, but this behavior has improved quickly with familiarity. Please be aware that maintaining his coat will require significant effort and expense, with professional grooming costing around $80-$120 monthly, or daily brushing if you prefer to keep his coat long and fluffy.
Training & Support
Jeffrey is mostly crate trained and understands commands to go in his crate. He has a lot of energy and wants to be out and about, so he hopes for a home where he won't need to be crated for long periods. While he's made progress with potty training, he still needs consistent work to fully master it. He does better holding it in a plastic crate than a metal one and has been known to use diapers. He knows the word "potty" and will make an effort to go outside if prompted at the right time. He is still working on socialization, especially with new people and in public, and can be a bit anxious and barky in new situations. With continued socialization and patience, he will gain more confidence.
