About RITCHEY ROO (aka Richard)
Ritchey Roo, affectionately known as Richard, is an exuberant, jubilant, and yet laid-back companion who was made to be man's best friend. He is all about humans and prefers to be the sole furry recipient of your affection. This happy boy is not shy about his love for people and enjoys lounging inside or out, always wanting to be by your side. He's a great pup for a home with a fenced yard and is house-trained, comfortable spending time on his own when you're away.
Richard is an interesting character, capable of being a quiet couch potato or a consistently energetic and jubilant soul. A leash or your presence can instantly transform him from zero to ten! While he can be gentle, he can also be a bit boisterous, especially when food or a leash is involved, sometimes invading personal space with his jumping and excitement. He has a hound's voice and only speaks when he has something to say, often in a humorous way.
Estimated to be around 5-6 years old and currently weighing 90 lbs, Richard arrived underweight and we may have overcompensated in getting him back to a healthy weight. He could benefit from a diet and/or increased physical activity. He loves sleeping in bed with his human and has learned the command "OVER" to create a little more space.
Richard doesn't seem interested in toys or playing fetch, but he thoroughly enjoys car rides and walks, though he does require significant leash training as he can be a strong puller. Ultimately, he'd be content lounging at home or running in the yard. While he loves your company, he's not a "velcro dog" and can be quite independent. He's done well in foster homes and boarding facilities, proving to be easy to care for and good company.
While Richard has been friendly through fencing and non-reactive to other dogs in boarding environments, his overwhelming excitement has led to him being declined from daycare in the past. Given his history as a stray and then surrendered by a loving family, we believe Richard would thrive as the only pampered pup in a home. He is a very lovable boy who cannot be overlooked and is more than fabulous for the right person or people.
