Spike

Spike is our little guy with a big name! He came to us from a hoarding situation last year and was recently returned through no fault of his own. After a vet visit last year, it was determined that his tongue is quite small for his mouth. The vet team believes Spike will live a healthy life, as he has survived his first year without complications, and most issues arise in the first few months of life.

To help Spike eat, it has been suggested to feed him "meatballs" (wet food mixed with dry food and rolled into small balls) to help him get food to the back of his mouth to swallow. He also may benefit from a large, bottled water dropper like those used for rabbits, and offering ice cubes. While Spike will use these tools, he prefers drinking water from a bowl. When he does, he lifts his head high so the water goes down easily. We're hoping this doesn't deter potential adopters, as he is the sweetest little guy and deserves a loving forever family.

Ongoing Health

Spike's tongue is small for his mouth, but this is not expected to cause complications. He is currently on a round of doxycycline after testing positive for Lyme. Spike has been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

Training & Support

Spike is adapting well to using a water dropper and enjoying his "meatball" meals. Continue to offer him these options and observe his preferences.

Spike is located in Fairmont, WV. Approved adopters are expected to drive to WV to pick up their pet. We do not use transport companies.
