Chido

Charming Chido is a loving 4-year-old, 63 lb American Bulldog mix with a heart of gold. He came to us from the streets near Houston, and despite his rough start, Chido has a remarkable capacity for trust and affection. He's a gentle soul who adores cats and makes friends easily with both people and most dogs. Chido enjoys short walks, playtime with his toys, and lots of naps – he’s a champion sleeper! He is gentle with children and his doggy selective nature means he thrives with dogs who aren’t overly boisterous or demanding. Loud noises like thunder, lightning, and fireworks can be frightening for Chido, but he calms down quickly with a reassuring presence.

Ideal Home

Chido would do best in a patient household with someone who works from home or is retired. He experiences separation anxiety, so a constant companion to relax with is ideal. He is an indoor companion and not suited to living outdoors.

Ongoing Health

Chido is heartworm positive and is currently on slow-kill medication (Heartguard), which is an inexpensive monthly pill. He should be tested annually to monitor his heartworm status. Chido also experiences occasional hip arthritis, which can make it difficult for him to move initially. This has only occurred twice since he has been in foster care and seems to stem from an old injury. X-rays showed inflammation but no breaks. He responds well to a gentle hip massage and rest.

Training & Support

Chido walks well on a leash, knows basic commands, and is potty trained. His separation anxiety will require understanding and a consistent routine.
