Meet Ernest!

Ernest is a gentle, sensitive, and deeply affectionate five-and-a-half-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix who weighs around 75 pounds. He thrives on connection and loves to be close to his people, offering sweet kisses and quietly following them from room to room. Ernest has a history of getting along well with children, cats, and even chickens, demonstrating a calm and friendly nature with various companions. He's often welcoming toward strangers, but his sensitivity means he benefits from understanding and patience.

Ideal Home

Ernest needs a calm and predictable environment where he feels secure. He would do best in a home where his caregiver is present most of the time, as he needs a gentle and consistent presence throughout the day and does not do well with long workdays away from home. He also thrives with frequent walks and hikes. Ernest does not do well with crates, kennels, or gates, and experiences barrier frustration, so he will need a home that can provide him with freedom of movement in a safe and supportive way. While he is good with other dogs, thoughtful introductions and continued guidance are recommended to ensure comfortable play.

Ongoing Health

Ernest requires daily medication, including Keppra and Prozac, to manage his epilepsy and anxiety. These medications generally keep his seizures well-managed, and with consistent care, he enjoys walks, gentle play, and rest.

Training & Support

Ernest can become overstimulated and may vocalize or struggle to settle, especially with a lot of movement or change. He benefits from structure, positive reinforcement, and a steady presence. He needs a caregiver who is attentive and ready to support both his emotional world and his medical care.
