Bruno’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. He was found wandering the streets of New York City and brought into the city’s municipal shelter. The shelter environment was overwhelming for him—his stress was heartbreaking. Bruno would dig frantically at his kennel, chew on the bars, bark nonstop, and pace restlessly. These weren’t signs of a “bad dog,” but of a dog simply unraveling under the weight of fear and anxiety. Thankfully, a wonderful couple saw past his stress and stepped up to save his life. Because of them, Bruno has been given the second chance he so deeply deserves. Bruno is an approximately 5-year-old, 30lb Pitbull Mix who is neutered. He is described as being good with kids and strangers. Bruno approaches other dogs with curiosity and playfulness, but will respond with low growling if the other dog shows aggression. He has not displayed any aggression with malintentions. Bruno has been great with cats, showing very little interest in them. He mostly walks well on leash, only pulling occasionally and is quickly corrected. He listens to "stay" and "sit" on walks. Bruno is housetrained. He is energetic when he first gets home from work, but once he settles, Bruno LOVES to cuddle. He will listen to redirection when trying to sneak on the couch. Bruno loves to play tug of war and will bring his favorite toys to you. He also loves affection, bottom scratches, friendly rough play, treats, and couch cuddling. Bruno does well in the car.
Ideal Home
Bruno would do great in a home that has a routine. He would thrive in a home with a friendly dog.
Ongoing Health
Bruno has had a past issue with paraphimosis, for which he had surgery. His penis is always out due to the correction surgery, but it does not seem to bother him. He will lick after he’s used the bathroom.
Training & Support
Bruno is energetic when he first gets home from work, but settles down. He is great with older kids and cats. He listens to commands and is super smart. He will listen to redirection with little to no resistance.
