Dagger is a spirited 6.5-month-old Retriever/Pit Bull mix with a heart full of cuddles and a personality that shines! Weighing 40 pounds, she's estimated to be a large dog when fully grown, and her mom, Wanda, weighs around 55 pounds. Dagger was rescued as a tiny puppy with her littermates and mom from a rural area outside of Houston and has since grown up loved and cared for in a foster home. She's named for the distinctive dagger-shaped white marking on her neck and her once-sharp puppy teeth, which have softened into gentle love nibbles.
Dagger is a wonderful blend of playful energy and affectionate companionship. She's curious, confident, and loves to explore, even testing the limits of enclosures as a talented escape artist! But after a good romp, her favorite place is snuggled up in your lap, receiving affection. She's a social butterfly, friendly with strangers, and her tail is almost always wagging. She enjoys playing with other dogs and has been raised with her littermates and mother. Dagger has also been around children and has done well.
Ideal Home
Dagger would thrive in a home that can keep up with her adventurous spirit while also providing plenty of cuddles. Because she's a talented escape artist, future families should be aware of her cleverness. She needs a home where someone isn't routinely away for more than four to six hours at a time, as she benefits from regular potty breaks, exercise, enrichment, training, and human interaction.
Ongoing Health
Dagger is a healthy young pup who has received care from our veterinarians.
Training & Support
Dagger is potty trained and continues to learn about the world. She is an adolescent and will benefit from ongoing positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued leash practice to help her mature into an exceptional adult dog. Continued socialization is crucial for building lifelong confidence, and we prefer homes that already have another friendly, well-mannered dog to help mentor her. If you don't have another dog, please be ready to provide structured training classes, regular playdates with trusted dogs, supervised daycare, or other safe opportunities for positive canine interaction.
