Gingersnap, affectionately known as Ginger or Gingey, is a wonderfully funny, spunky, and adorable 9-year-old Pekingese mix weighing in at about 9lbs. We don't know her exact backstory, but she was found as a stray in Houston. It's evident she's had puppies in her past, and it's likely her life before the city shelter wasn't an easy one. A shelter employee saw her potential and reached out, and we couldn't resist busting her out right away! Ginger is a friendly, confident girl with a low to medium energy level. She's quite playful with most dogs she meets, especially other small, young pups. In her foster home, she's taken a special liking to one of the resident boys and can often be found trying to entice him into a game – it's truly adorable!
Ideal Home
Ginger's ideal home would include another very playful small dog, as she enjoys both vigorous play and relaxing. While she's a confident girl who could do well in various homes, due to her tendency to be startled, a home without young children would be best.
Ongoing Health
Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and will be ready to join her forever family in September.
Training & Support
Ginger is potty trained, crate trained, and walks well on a leash. She sees her crate as her "zen den" and will happily relax in it during the day when the door is open, and sleeps in it at night. She has had very few accidents since arriving in foster care and has shown no signs of separation anxiety. While she's great with being handled, she can let out a little shriek if startled. She's become less easily startled as she's adjusted to her foster home and routine. Her adopter should be willing to continue basic command training for her safety.
