About Pecan

Meet Pecan! She’s a little goofy, a little shy — and very proud of both!

Pecan is the kind of dog who reminds you that trust is built, not rushed. She came to the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center as a fearful stray, and she is now in a foster home where her personality is really starting to blossom. She’s eating well, settling into a routine and has been respectful around the resident cats.

Pecan loves being outside, following her nose and taking her time exploring. Long, sniffy walks, wandering around the yard and wading through water are some of her favorite ways to spend the day. Once she’s had her fill, she’s happy to settle down nearby and relax.

In her foster home, Pecan’s playful side came out quickly. She jumped right in to play with the resident dogs, joyfully running and chasing until everyone was tired. Lately, she’s been learning to play tug with a stick, which has quickly become a favorite game. She does best with easygoing dog friends who give her space to join in at her own pace.

Pecan may take a minute to feel comfortable with new people and can be unsure when someone approaches too quickly. When she’s given a little space, she chooses to approach on her own. She’s already showing how much she enjoys affection, coming over for pets, leaning in for attention and happily sticking around once she feels safe. She also loves being brushed and will wander over to join when she sees other dogs getting attention.

Pecan is looking for a home that will let her move at her own pace and continue building her confidence. In return, you’ll get a sweet, sensitive dog who loves to explore, enjoys other dogs and forms meaningful connections with her people.
