Huey is a handsome 2-year-old, approximately 56 lb, Labrador mix with athletic legs built for adventure and a heart full of love to share. He's intelligent, motivated, and responds well to confident leadership. Huey has mastered skills in his foster home, including crate training, house-training, and settling indoors. He enjoys following his people around, being a quiet shadow, and is affectionate without being overly needy.
Ideal Home
Huey would thrive in a home with a yard where he can run and play freely. Apartment living is not ideal for him, as he is still working on leash skills in busy areas and prefers not to have multiple leash walks a day for potty breaks. While he has done well in busy households with other dogs and children in previous foster homes, long-term living with children is not for him. He would do best in a calm, structured home.
Ongoing Health
Huey has been thoroughly vetted, including vaccinations, deworming, flea and heartworm prevention, and microchipping. His adoption fee includes extensive medical care, with the understanding that while every effort is made to ensure good health, perfect health cannot be guaranteed.
Training & Support
Huey thrives with boundaries and responds well to confident leadership. He is house-trained and crate-trained. A common behavior for rescue dogs, Huey exhibits resource guarding with food, meaning he does not like other dogs attempting to eat his food. This is easily managed by feeding him in his crate or in a separate area. A one-dog household would eliminate any potential for tension over meal times, though he has proven to be a good playmate with other dogs when managed appropriately.
