Meet Kiko! This 9-year-old, 68 lb mixed-breed gentleman is a resilient soul with a heart full of love to give. Originally from Mexico, Kiko spent most of his life on a rooftop, but his sweet nature and charm quickly won over everyone he met. Now in foster care in Oshawa, he's described as loving, affectionate, eager to please, easygoing, and surprisingly low-maintenance. Kiko dreams of a permanent home where he can finally feel a sense of belonging and security. His ideal day involves playing fetch, rolling in the grass, enjoying snacks, and snuggling up with his favorite people. He walks beautifully on a leash, matching his pace to his human, and prefers quieter neighborhoods where he doesn't encounter too many loud vehicles or strangers. While he's a dream in the house, Kiko can be a bit shy with new people and other dogs, so slow introductions are key. He's also a big fan of his toys and can entertain himself when left alone for extended periods. Kiko is looking for a loving family to call his own and is ready to shower them with kisses and affection!
Ideal Home
Kiko would thrive in a quiet home with a yard, ideally as the only pet. He would do best with older, dog-savvy children due to his enjoyment of rough play. He needs a family who can advocate for his space and help build his confidence, especially around stairs. He prefers a quieter neighborhood with minimal encounters with loud vehicles, strangers, or other dogs.
Ongoing Health
Kiko had a growth removed from his leg that was diagnosed as cutaneous hemangiosarcoma, a malignant type of skin cancer. While it's not palliative, there's a chance it may return and requires regular monitoring. He should also avoid prolonged sun exposure on areas of lighter skin. Kiko is prone to developing tiny bladder stones and requires a specific brand of food.
Training & Support
Kiko has basic obedience skills and is very attuned to his people, eager to please. He is sensitive and observant. He needs slow and respectful introductions to new people and dogs. His new family will need to be committed to working on his leash etiquette, obedience training, and overall confidence, especially with stairs.
