About Wallace
Wallace is a 7+ year-old male beagle with a heart as big as his soulful eyes. This sweet guy, who answers to the name Wrigley, is fully potty trained and very much true to his beagle roots—which means he will sing you the song of his people when you leave, come home, or company arrives. Because of his signature beagle howl, Wallace would do best in a house rather than a condo or apartment. Due to his beagle nature, he also cannot live with cats; they are as tempting as rabbits and squirrels.
He lived with an older family who moved to an environment that was not suitable for him. He was well socialized and displays the typical love for all people of all sizes, including children, who he is very tolerant of. He possesses great manners and was never given people food, so he doesn't beg or drool during mealtimes. However, he is a beagle, and dinner left unsupervised on the coffee table is not a good idea. He knows sit, down, stay, and place, and will wait at the door for permission before dashing out. He was also permitted to sleep with his humans and feels that he is entitled to this. While he has been trained to sleep in a dog bed, he would much prefer a home that welcomes him into bed. Another small blessing is that he will not stalk you into the bathroom. He was an only dog, and while he has gotten along with other dogs, he would prefer to be your only companion and not share your attention.
Wallace is a true "beagle's beagle," which comes with all the lovable quirks the breed is known for. He is highly food motivated and his definition of "food" includes anything once edible on the ground and most things (tissues included) in the trash can. He loves to take walks and be outside, sniffing everything, saying hi to everyone he meets (including dogs), and attempting to chase squirrels and rabbits. He walks well on a leash, but a strong hand is needed when temptation strikes. He also rides in the car very well.
Wallace loves humans most of all and soaks up affection like a pro. He’s the kind of dog who’s happiest curled up watching movies, snoozing on his favorite ottoman, or perched on his lookout bench, quietly supervising the world outside. We believe he had family at home most of the time, so we are still evaluating how he deals with being left alone. His initial attempts at being left alone resulted in him singing for close to an hour before settling, but he did not seem overly stressed and was not destructive. Subsequent attempts have been much better, and he makes himself comfortable. Retirees or a family where someone is usually home would be easiest at this time.
If you’re looking for a loving sidekick who enjoys cuddles, cozy routines, and a bit of beagle commentary, Wallace might just be your perfect match.
