Chicharrón isn’t just a good dog—he’s the kind of dog people wish they found sooner. After more than a year in the shelter, he’s still holding onto hope that his person (or even a foster!) is out there. And when you meet him, it’s hard not to wonder how he’s been overlooked this long. He’s the perfect blend of playful and easygoing. Want to toss a tennis ball? He’s all in—fetch is one of his absolute favorite games. Want to relax on the couch? He’s already picked his spot and is ready to be your snuggle buddy. In playgroup, he’s known as a soft, respectful player, even with dogs smaller than he is. But what really makes Chicharrón special is who he is in a home.A volunteer took him out for a sleepover, and he completely transformed into the ultimate house dog. Fully house-trained (zero accidents), slept peacefully through the night, and happily curled up in bed like he’d been doing it his whole life. He lounged on the couch, kept a calm, medium energy, and was perfectly content just being near his people. He handled crate time well, showing great potential for a smooth transition into a routine.More than anything, he soaked up the quiet, calm environment—just enjoying the simple joy of being a normal dog outside of a kennel. He’s also proven himself to be quite the adventure buddy. On a field trip to UT campus, he loved strolling around, taking in the sights, and charming everyone he passed. So if you’re a Longhorn looking for a loyal sidekick... he’s ready to enroll.Apartment? House with a yard? He truly doesn’t mind. His biggest wish is simple: to leave behind the concrete kennel and be part of someone’s everyday life.Chicharrón is ready. He’s done the waiting, done the proving—now he just needs someone to say yes. Email his volunteer advocates at orangedotcrew@gmail.com to meet him!
