Declan is a handsome 4.5-year-old Miniature Poodle with a beautiful white coat, weighing in at 14.5 pounds. He's a sweet boy who has had a bit of a rough start, evidenced by a past tail injury and initial shyness around new people and environments. Declan flew all the way from Texas to Colorado in search of a patient and loving forever home. When he first arrived, he was quite reserved and needed time to feel comfortable, but with a gentle approach, he quickly blossomed into a loving companion. He tends to warm up more quickly to women than men and seems to get along well with other dogs, especially smaller females, provided introductions are done carefully. Declan is incredibly food and treat motivated, which has been a great asset in his training and bonding. He was a bit underweight when he arrived, so we use a slow feeder bowl to ensure he enjoys his meals at a healthy pace.
Ideal Home
Declan would thrive in a home that understands his need for patience and allows him to approach new situations and people at his own pace. A home with another calm, smaller female dog could be a great fit, assuming proper introductions are made.
Ongoing Health
Declan has been neutered, is up-to-date on vaccinations (rabies, distemper, and kennel cough), has had a vet check, tested negative for heartworm and is on preventative. He has a healed tail fracture from his past.
Training & Support
Declan is doing well with house training but may have small accidents when he's frightened or in a new situation. He tolerates brushing and gentle scissoring once he knows you but is not a fan of clippers. His food-motivated nature makes him eager to please and learn.
